Baja Boys 8

We had a home cooked breakfast on our last full day in Baja, with Remy eating a big stack of pancakes and Mom and Dad enjoying some eggs. Afterwards Clint, Harvey, and Cat went to walk around town, while Remy, Mom, and Dad went to the bike rental shop. The plan was for Dad to do some mountain biking, but unfortunately the bike shop was inexplicably closed. Instead we went to Buena Vista (just south of town) to check out the beach. We walked for about an hour and saw a pretty diverse selection of (dead) sea life, including some lobsters, lots of puffer fish, and sardines.

When we were finished our walk we drove back towards town and stopped at one of the beachfront hotels to inspect their pool and potential dinner spots. The pool was judged too cold, but they beachside restaurant looked like a great place for an evening cocktail.

As we drive past the bike shop Dad noted that it was now open. After filling out one piece of paper Dad had a helmet and a bike and was off to explore.

Los Barriles has a nicely maintained trail system a few miles south of town. There are a few green (easy) trails, lots of blue (medium) trails, and even a few black trail (certain death). The green trails proved to be challenging, and the blue trailer entailed lots of hiking with the bike and plenty of hopping off the bike to avoid more serious collisions with rocks and cacti. Personal safety concerns aside, the ride was fun and a nice change of pace from the beach.

Remy and Mom walked to the beach while Dad was gone, and had to confront a cow in order to make it all the way.

For dinner we all hopped into Clint, Kat, and Harvey's rental car (Mom walked) and cruised through town to the hotel. We had a wonderful happy hour meal looking out over the beach where we could see not only the kite surfers, but also the mobular rays jumping out of the surf. The waiter made us a batch of fresh guacamole and salsa as part of our order. The salsa in particular was delicious.

After dinner Mom, Remy, and Dad walked back along the beach. In the process we made a new pero friend and acquired the largest ice cream sandwich ever discovered.
As the evening wound down we wrapped up our vacation with some evening boardgames and got ready to say goodbye to Baja.
