Remy in the Redwoods 3

Okay we're almost to the part where we stop working and start adventuring. Dad had a little bit of work to wrap up in the morning, so Mom and Remy got everything packed up and ready to go. We shut our laptops at noonish and hopped in the car for the last few hours of driving south.

We were now driving on the coast, so our view had improved considerably but our nausea levels had not. Luckily no one felt too ill, although Roz did not look like she was enjoying herself. We have driven this route before so there were several notes about beaches we had stopped at and restaurants that we had either loved or absolutely abhorred.

Our camping spot for the next few days was a few miles north of Trinidad, CA, and Google curiously had us drive past the campground, exit, and then drive back north to arrive. This was doubly unfortunate because it took longer, and because the road between Trinidad and the campground was in a bit of disrepair. It looked like the concrete in places was doing its best impression of the surf down below. We drove extremely slow to compensate.

After arriving we set out for a short hike at Elk Head along a bluff. We took a long staircase down to the beach, and then walked through some very spooky woods. Much of the ocean scenery is similar to what you can see along the Washington and Oregon coasts, with picturesque blue water and large singular rock formations jutting up.

For dinner we supped at Larrupin' Cafe. It was on the fancier side of things, with carpets on the floor and the table! Everything on the menu looked quite delicious, so we ordered three mains and utilized Remy's dish to try some of the additional options for sides. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and got them prepared two different ways, one raw and one BBQ'd. We both agreed that the BBQ'd oysters were quite delicious. That is something we will have to try to make ourselves when we return home. All of our main dishes were excellent, although there was a bit of grumbling from the grown-ups about the wine glasses. For some reason, despite having a very nice wine list, the restaurant opted for very short and very thick glasses. We both agreed that this was not doing the wines any favors. Is there a corkage fee if you bring your own glass?

Restroom Review

Camp Trinidad's restrooms were equally clean and only slightly less secure than those at Sunny Valley. Restroom security is of the utmost importance. I wasn't personally a big fan of the green color choices, but it wasn't particularly off putting. Our site had the advantage/disadvantage of being very close to the restroom. It was a short walk for us, but it also meant that several times a day folks would walk through the back of our site to reach the restroom. I can't fault the campground for this so no flushes will be deducted. The sinks at Camp Trinidad were in excellent working order, and I had no problem cleaning the grease off my hands after setting up the trailer.

3.5/5 flushes.
