Sunday morning we headed straight out the door for a trip to Playa Los Cerritos, a beach about 15 minutes south of Todos Santos.
Most of the beaches in Todos Santos proper are not recommended for swimming, as the waves can be quite large and the rip current is dangerous. Los Cerritos on the other hand is a very notable swimming beach and is also known as a great surf spot for beginners.
Before hitting the beach we stopped at the Baja Beans coffee roaster, which supplies a lot of the shops around Todos Santos with beans. We had baked goods, egg sandwiches, pancakes, and very good coffee.
The area around Baja Beans was set up for an outdoor market. Remy and Mom wandered through and looked at all of the goods while Dad and Louie studied the watermelon farm near the parking lot. Both were very interesting.
Properly fueled with coffee and croissants, we headed to the beach! Our first task was to get our tent set up so that the members of our party who don't like to remove their coats could have a place to sit. It wasn't terribly hot, but the sun can be intense, especially when wearing all black.
Next on the list was getting a sand castle built. We have an excellent set of sand castle building tools, including a wall mold, a tower mold, and some buckets. Dad made a very large outer structure for our castle that many of the folks walking by commented on. Remy constructed rooms within the castle for all of his animals to say in. The sand at Los Cerritos is exceptional for sand castle building. It is quite a bit finer than the sand in Todos Santos, which makes it stick together a little better and helps to preserve the castle for longer, so long as Remy or Louie don't get the notion of stomping on the walls. This picture is from our beach, but you can see the sand castle taking shape!
With our sandcastle constructed, and now housing several inhabitants, it was time to play in the waves! As previously mentioned, the water here is much calmer compared to the other beaches on the Pacific side of Baja. Remy got to run, jump, roll, lay, slide, stand, sit, and wiggle in the water all afternoon.
After our trip home and a nap, we took a walk on the beach and then headed to Jazamango for dinner. We originally though that the restaurant was in the downtown area. We found a parking spot downtown, but noticed that the directions were to a location outside of town. This was very confusing, as we had seen a sign for the restaurant in a previous trip to town. We decided to trust the directions in front of us, as opposed to our very sharp and astute minds, and made it to the restaurant right on time for our reservation.
Jazamango is the most upscale restaurant that we've eaten at so far, and our dinner included a great wine and beer selection, broccoli soup, octopus, 6 hr braised ribs, coal grilled bone marrow, corn cake with ice cream, and a chocolate tart. Remy ate a truckload of bread, homemade fettuccini, and a good helping of the chocolate tart. The atmosphere was great, and we learned after dinner that there is also a satellite Jazamango cafe in town. This was the cause of our earlier confusion.
