Bookin' down to Baja 16 - Sand, sand, and more sand (and sushi)

After two days of long walks we were ready for a break. We decided to hit the beach but stay in one spot today. We did lots of sandy things, like building sandcastles, making holes, and playing some catch. Louie and Remy were both glad for the relaxing morning after yesterday's very sweaty walk. The waves were pretty large today, which meant that they were coming higher up the beach, which also meant that it was a little easier to play in the water. When the waves don't come up as high they tend to stay in the part of the beach where the slope is more treacherous. Big waves wash farther ashore into the flat areas.

Oops.

For dinner we went to Todos Santos Brewing, a spot that we had visited last time we were here and really enjoyed. They have a very large selection of beers (16+!) so there was something for every taste. After eating primarily seafood for the past few days it was nice to switch things up with a fish burger. We got a beef burger too. Remy got a giant pretzel and was kind enough to share one bite with Dad. There was live music scheduled for the evening but we only got to see the warmup before one member of our party got too squirmy to sit in their seat. I'll let you guess who it was.

After dinner we stopped at the grocery store to get the essentials: dishwashing liquid, paper towels, some fruit, and cookies. Remy helped to pick out the cookies and also had his first vending machine experience.

Tuesday morning we went back to Doce Cuarenta (currently in first place for best breakfast spot in town).  Despite going to bed at 8:30 every night, Mom still requires two large caffeinated beverages to properly prepare herself for the day. Given all that she gets done, Dad is considering that his double espresso maybe isn't enough. Notice how much cheerier Mom looks.

We were back to sunny weather and high temps today, so Mom and Remy hit the beach after morning meetings. Louie tagged along begrudgingly.

For dinner we went to Noah, a rooftop sushi restaurant on the third floor of a building downtown. The views were excellent.
Remy arranged his own sushi restaurant. He gets highly varied clientele.
The strangest thing that we've ever seen occurred here, and it didn't involve anyone eating play-doh. The couple seated behind us had a young daughter around Remy's age, and at one point she got a bit fussy. We figured that we should give a knowing look of solidarity, something that said, "hey, kids are crazy. Ours doesn't sit still either." Before we could acknowledge things in any way, the couple placed a pillow on the ground near their table and their daughter curled up to take a nap. In a restaurant. At 6:30 pm. On a Monday. With a giant TV in the restaurant showing ocean scenes. With all the city noises going on below us. We were flabbergasted.

Here is Remy, after our dinner outing mind you, still going strong and drawing maps of our route down to Mexico. No pillow on the floor for this kid.
