Bookin' down to Baja 25 - Feliz Cumpleaños

Despite the ample amounts of warm weather, daily walks, and mostlyt clean living, some of us are still getting older. To celebrate Dad's birthday we did what most 35-year-olds do: built a Lego castle and then went out for cocktails.

Before kicking off the multi-day celebration extravaganza, Remy took a quick trip to Africa to feed the tigres.

Once he returned it was time to get to partying.  At dinner two nights prior to the big day we were treated to a very intimate performance by a live band. They asked for requests and Mom asked for "Happy Birthday." A classic for sure. When the band asked Remy what he wanted to hear he requested "Wheels on the Bus." Unfortunately they weren't familiar with that particular tune, so they played a different children's song. We didn't catch all of the lyrics but I think it was about a crazy lizard.

Did Remy order a basket of bread for dinner?
Post dinner paleta.
Post paleta art walk.

On Dad's birthday eve we hit the beach in the AM for some serious walks. The waves over the previous evening had made some great dunes for us to jump off of.
Remy jump.
Dad jump.
You absolutely cannot skip breakfast after so much morning beach jumping.
Remy is hard at working perfecting the best ratio of water to sand for making sandcastle cement.

For birthday's eve dinner we went to Copa Cocina, which is one of the places that we had dined at during our previous trip. It took us a while to locate it due to the fact that you can't see the restaurant from the street. In order to get to the seating one has to walk through the reception area, past the reading room, and through the bar. However, the outdoor space where the restaurant is located is very comfortable. It sits down below the street level but has high walls, lots of plants, and a very cool fire pit. We were the only customer present up until just before we left so we got all of the attention from the staff.
Notice Remy's plate of plain noodles in the background. We've been able to get plain noodles at almost every restaurant that serves pasta, but the definition of "plain" seems to change a bit depending on where we are. Plain sometimes includes bits of basil, and sometimes cheese.
Reading some books by the light of the world's brightest candle.

Now we've finally arrived at ol' Dada's birthday. The morning got going with some birthday pastries and of course, presents.
This looks suspiciously like someone gave Remy a phone and let him pick out the presents.
First we built Lego castles.
Then sandcastles!

For dinner we made our longest drive (to a restaurant) of the trip so far. We headed south toward Cerritos, eventually arriving at Hierbabuena in Pescadero. Hierbabuena (spearmint or mint in Spanish) is a farm to table restaurant where you can quite literally walk through the farm on your way to your table.
In addition to the farm to table offerings, Hierbabuena also has PIZZA! They even have PLAIN CHEESE pizza.
Luckily there are a lot of options other than pizza, not that the adults have anything against pizza.
We wrapped up an excellent birthday week with a bit of cake and a nice relaxing post dinner evening at home.
