Bookin' down to Baja 28 - Boogie!

Another Sunday, and another Cerritos beach day. Everything is the same same, but different as well. For breakfast we tried to go to our usual favorite Doce Cuarenta, but we learned too late that they open at 8am on Sundays instead of their usual 7am! Most of the restaurants in town aren't open until 8am at the earliest, so we cruised around until we found something that was open.

The El Jardin Cafe is located at the base of a hotel, and their food was adequate but nothing spectacular. Remy had some french toast that had a Carmel sauce on top that wasn't to his liking, so we left with a still hungry baby in tow.

On our drive toward Cerritos we decided to stop for a second cup of coffee and some waffles at cafe Same Same But Different (see what I did there?). SSBD is a bit off the road, and if you didn't know it was there, thanks Google, you would never find it. We grabbed an outdoor table and ordered two coffees and a waffle for Remy.

Cerritos is a developed area in that it has a lot of services, but almost all of the roads are dirt, and they aren't even particularly flat or smooth. SSBD fits this setting perfectly, as they have a very nice little ordering area about the size of a large shipping container tucked into a dirt hillside. The ordering area has a big counter and a few small tables. They have more tables outside, and their kitchen is hidden somewhere behind a group of palm trees. Orders get radioed in from the main building and the food magically appears a few minutes later. It is an excellent way to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in the middle of the desert.

Caramel wasn't a hit, but chocolate certainly was.

We wanted to spice up our Cerritos trip this week so we rented a boogie board for some extra fun in the waves. It was a big hit with Remy. Things you can do with a boogie board:

Pull it around on the sand.
Pull it around in the water.
Pull it around with a Remy on it.
Pull it around with a Remy facing backwards.
Wipeout!
You can also use the boogie board to ride on the waves I guess.

We had a lot of fun with our boogie board, and I think just about everyone got worn out. Even Louie got some extra exercise in running back and forth on the beach. Although he has acclimated well to living in Baja, he still is absolutely positively terrified of the water. Even the tiniest wave sends him sprinting back up the shore. A good tip: If you're ever trying to get away from Louie just stand in one inch of water and he'll leave you alone.
