The drive from our RV park to Carmel-by-the-Sea was a quick one. It took us almost as long to find a parking spot in Carmel as it did to drive there. We have been finding it increasingly hard to find parking spaces with the larger trailer. The best solution seems to be looking for street parking on the outskirts of town and walking in. This can be challenging if we want to leave Emma in the car while we eat.
We hiked into town, all four of us, and had breakfast at the Carmel Valley Coffee Company. Afterward, Remy was looking forward to a trip to the candy store, but they didn't open for another 45 minutes. We walked around town and enjoyed taking in the very quaint architecture. One of the houses had exterior features that made it look like the whole house was waving in the wind. We also stopped in at the bakery for two baked pretzels that were each larger than Remy's head.
The candy shop was only briefly fascinating, perhaps an allegory for candy itself, so we trucked back to our truck, deposited our goods, and hit the beach.
The weather was sunny but not overly warm. Everyone wore pants and a long sleeve shirt. The sand at Carmel could only be described as luxurious. It was white, warmed in the sun, and perfectly sticky for making sand castles. Emma got to play with a whole host of other puppies. Perfect for getting tuckered out prior to a long drive. Remy and Dad continued their sand sculpting adventures, this time constructing an enormous train track complete with multiple stations, shops, tunnels, caves, towers, and everything else that Remy could dream up.
When beach time was over we headed further south to meet Chris, Linnea, and Elisabet.
We were originally going to drive along the coast, but decided it would be faster and easier driving to head inland a bit. Our suppositions were correct. The road was mostly flat and relatively free of traffic. We made good time, or as good as can be expected when towing 5,000 pounds, and we cruised into our RV site at Prismo beach in the early afternoon.
The temperature had been fluctuating wildly while we drove, getting as high as 80 and dipping down into the mod 60s in other areas. It was hot when we arrived in Prismo but our sources in the ground warned us that the wind in the beach was likely to drop the temp considerably.
Linnea and company met us at the beach and all of the children got a good final dose of sand play in. After beach time we headed to dinner. Pub food for everyone and a good selection of beers for the adults. This week brings a whole host of activities for everyone, so expect plenty of exciting updates soon.
