We woke up with heavy hearts to our last day on the beautiful Isla Espiritu Santo, but that didn't stop us from enjoying a lovely breakfast of Mexican Eggs (pancakes for Remy) and a kayaking adventure. After breakfast we packed all of our things in preparation for a quick turnaround when we got back. This proved to be excellent foresight on our part.
With our things packed we hopped back into the kayaks, this time with Dad and Remy in the tandem, and headed out around the point. The previous day's trip took us into the neighboring cove, but today we continued past that into the next cove over. Here we paddled past some very high cliffs, and then around a frigate bird nesting colony. The frigate birds were getting ready to pair up for mating season and the males could be seen puffing out their red chest pouches. The water was slightly rougher than the day before but we were enjoying our paddle so we continued on. Eventually we landed on the beach for a quick bathroom break and then hopped back into the kayaks. It was getting close to departure time so we put our heads down and booked it back. The water out around the point was now quite rough and Dad and Remy had to sing some viking adventure songs to help get them through the voyage.
We arrived back at camp a little later than anticipated and had to hop in our boat quickly. Luckily we were already packed. We said goodbye to everyone and set off back to La Paz.
Once back on land we grabbed our car and started the hour drive the La Ventana. We stopped just outside of town (definitely not big enough to be a city) to grab coffee and waffles. Yum! After refueling ourselves we drove the rest of the way to our hotel.
This particular lodging was a series of private bungalows, and ours was incredibly comfortable. We lounged a bit and then headed down to the beach for a walk and dinner. We ate at a beach restaurant, and Dad made the mistake of ordering a soft shell crab taco. The thinking was that it would be a taco filled with crab meat, but in actuality it was a taco with a crab in it. Having cleaned many, many crabs, this was a little off putting. It was eaten anyway. Remy had ice cream for dessert as he had missed the camp's homemade ice cream. He proclaimed it excellent.
