the second day of the tournament went much better. Maria elected to stay home from the party because she wasn't feeling too well, so i was the sole washington state representative present. For most of the party i dominated the fooseball table with allan, another US visitor, but soon decided that sleep was more important than socializing. I caught a cab home with a very conversational woman who told me all about her travel through the united states. I informed her of all the hot spots that she had missed on her bus tour, and encouraged her to visit again.
I found myself awake and alert the next morning, ready for whatever new zealand mixed ultimate had to throw at me. WE came out of the gate runing, easily dominating our first opponent. MAria had decided to stay home today, opting to go grocery shopping and finishish preparing for our trip south. The second game of the day was even easier, with christchurch rolling over the opposition on the way to the finals. At this point i was expecting a battle as the team we were destined tomeet in the finals was the Auckland/Australia team that had bested us the day before. With a huge lunch break before the game, yours truly decided the best course of action was to take a nap before the game. Awakening only minutes before game time, I had to run my butt off to get warmed up. Regradless of my warmup stratedgy, Christchurch came out firing and soon had a sizeable lead over their stacked opponenets. the combination of maerican talent and new zealand experience put christchurch ahead and kept them there for the whole game. In the end we won by a sizeable margin, taking home the medals and the right to beer cooler. Whoopeee!
