On the road to Great Sand Dunes National Park! Our first stop was just north of Santa Fe at Bandelier National Park. This was our second cave dwelling stop of the trip but this time we got to ascend up into the dwellings. Bandelier covers a much larger area, making it more of a cliff dwelling city vs. Montezuma's cliff dwelling palace. There are several examples of out-buildings, pits, and other structures away from the cliff that augmented the cliff homes. We suspected that one particularly deep pit with no exit was the day care.
Our road from Bandelier to Great Sand Dunes was a special kind of flat. I think we drove for almost two hours without turning the wheel on the truck. We also moved into Colorado, which was a first for everyone in the family.
Our RV spot, just north of Great Sand Dunes, was located on top of a hot springs. We spent most of the evening in a very very warm swimming pool fed by the springs. It was a good thing too because the night time temps were dipping near the single digits. We've had a cold front following us for much of our trip, including unseasonably cold temps in Pismo Beach and Santa Fe. The trailer stays plenty warm with the heater going so our only challenge was getting from the pool back to our RV. Luckily there were heated changing rooms. Even the hop from the pool to the changing room was teeth chattering.
