Remy's Ead Road Trip 2022 pt. 29

Ventura was our first camping spot back on the coast. The back of our trailer was literally poking right out over the ocean. We watched dolphins swimming by several times, watched the pelicans flying overhead, and also watched the ground squirrels that love to make homes in the rocks on the shore. Despite the wealth of entertainment, we spent a fair bit of time walking through town. After a week or two in national and state parks, and lots of cooking and cleaning in the trailer,  we were feeling ready to let someone else handle the dishes a few times.
Ventura was a place of many discoveries. Firstly, Remy was all of a sudden a Lego professional. He started mowing through small Lego sets on his own and quickly moved on to larger and more complex sets. Our minds are happy that he is enjoying them (and that they hold his focus for extended periods of time) but our wallets have begun to weep.

Our second re-discovery was how entertaining playgrounds can be. I suppose that a lot of the rock formations in the parks can act as natural playgrounds, but something about some slides and a big wooden structure to climb on really unlocks Remy's imagination. We visited two in Ventura and Remy did not want to leave either. At one he started a club that maybe employed pirates and maybe chased down pirates (unclear), and at the other we were naval firemen.

Our final discovery was Remy's interest in Christmas mythology. He was very taken by the large Christmas tree in Ventura downtown, and was also eager to send a letter to Santa. It is possible that he just enjoys toys and is trying to figure out exactly how the toys at Christmas situation works.

Emma is happy to be back near the beach as that usually means plenty of room for her to run. There was plenty of space in the parks but dogs off leash there is generally a big no-no. Emma is making the most of her beach time.

During our excursions into the downtown we did several coffee stops, explored the wharf, had a very interesting sushi dinner, and also went out for pizza.
"We're stopping for coffee again?"

We had previously been to Ventura for a wedding with Grandma and Grandpa Borisov several years ago, and we visited the same breakfast place for olds time's sake. Dad had eggs Benedict with tamales instead of English muffins. It was delicious.

Ventura downtown had a lot of interesting looking places to eat, we didn't even get to have any tacos, but alas we are headed onward to Santa Barbara. There is always a fine balance between fully exploring a city and getting to see lots of places. Extended stays can result in discovering hidden gems or getting to know a few local spots (or getting to know a few locals) but lingering also results in long drive days. We've taken the see lots of places approach for our drive through central California, so we should have plenty of int
