No Rabbits in Canadia pt. 3

Today was the day that Dean, Kelly, Regan, and Bode would be joining us, but with the spotty cell service we weren't quite sure when they would arrive. Dad got up with the dogs and took them for a stroll on the lake path while Remy caught up on his sleep.

The weather had been mostly sunny so far and the views of the river/lake and the mountains in both directions were quite stunning. Playing hide and seek with a mountain peak isn't always easy, but with the tall trees throughout the camp ground all of the mountains can disappear from view and then pop out again around the next corner.

The camp sites are all well spaced apart, and almost all of the trailer sites have a pull through area. These aren't particularly wide or flat, but it is nice to not have to worry about backing up with the narrow main roads. There are bathrooms, a dish sink, and water access a few minutes walk away, but no water or hookups at the sites. There is also a bit of an anomaly for folks used to camping in the US, free fire wood!

We played games and read stories for most of the morning and then Remy went down for a nap. When he woke up the Zimmermanns had not yet arrived so he sat by the side of the road with Mom to wait for them. Finally we saw their truck coming around the bend.

Their drive had been smooth sailing except for one problem. A rock had jumped up behind their truck and shattered the front window on their (rented) trailer. There was glass everywhere all over the inside, and we were expecting rain over the next few days. Mom whipped up a very enticing meals for all the kids while Kelly, Dean, and Dad set about cleaning up glass and trying to patch the window. We ended up using a table cloth and lots of duct tape, which will hopefully be enough to keep the rain out. Luckily Dean is a master duct taper.

After getting the Zimmermanns situated we pumped up the paddle boards and headed out onto the lake. Remy, Regan, and Bode were in the kayak with Kelly and Dad, and Remy and Regan both declared themselves co captains. Our headings were a bit garbled and we ended up doing plenty of circles while our two fearless leaders yelled out "port," "starboard," "port," "PORT."

Dean was the only person brave enough to jump in the water. He reported it to be very cold.

Afterwards The kiddos huddled up in the trailer to watch a movie while the grownups had a very pleasant steak dinner with margaritas. An excellent end to our first day all together.
