For the first time ever in the history of vacations, the simorisov family left exactly on time. We drove north, figuring that getting the trailer on the ferry was more trouble than it was worth. This was the first time driving the new truck with the trailer, so we took the first hour or so pretty slow. Luckily everyone was comfy cozy with the larger seats so there wasn't any complaining.
We were particularly worried about Roz, as she has gotten car sick on even short drives to the post office, but the anti nausea medicine from the vet seemed to have done the trick. There was still plenty of drool, but no vomit, and she was able to sleep for most of the drive.
We crossed Deception Pass, always a highlight for Remy, and got the truck and trailer on a real highway. Everything worked great! Our old truck had been fine towing on flats, but definitely struggled to maintain speed going up hills. Down hill was always a bit of an adventure as well.
Our first stop was in Burlington for a taco dinner. The dogs weren't happy sitting on the patio, so we absconded to a parking lot and set up our picnic table. The tacos were great and we considered cancelling the Canada portion and just camping out in Burlington for a few weeks. Way less driving and almost as scenic.
We cruised north and waved to Bellingham as we drove through. We pointed out to Remy all the formative places That we had visited like the first bar we went to together, the first store we bought beer from together, the first house we went to a party to together...hmm.
The border was no problem and the border guard even mentioned a few places along the way that he had enjoyed on his road trip. There were no questions about our cargo. We shall see if we get the same treatment Returning home.
While having a discussion about the different fauna in Canada, dad wondered if there would be any rabbits for Emma and Roz to chase. Remy stated, "Dada, there are no rabbits in Canadia."
We drove for another two hours and pulled into a quiet roadside camping and RV spot in the woods. Nothing special but they had clean bathrooms and hookups at the site. What else could a family ask for?
