The wind was still whipping when we got up today so we decided to pack up and head out in the hopes of staying ahead of any kind of storm. Luckily it was a short drive and our RV site was available. We parked hopped out and were greeted by some rolling thunder and a bit of rain. So much for staying ahead!
Our spot in Salida is at what Dad is referring to as an RV resort. It is basically a planned campground with huge sites and lots of amenities. There is a dog park, a river walk, a small gym, showers, laundry, etc. It was probably built when COVID first hit and every wanted a fancy place to stay, i.e. a trailer or RV, but they also wanted a nice place to park their trailer or RV. In addition we've got beautiful mountains rising up on all sides of us. Can't beat laundry and mountains!
We had lots of free time so we headed into nearby Buena Vista for a cup of coffee and some lunch. We ended up at the Buena Viking for some very tasty sandwiches. Remy had his usual chicken fingers, although these were done in a cornmeal breading that was very nice. Dad had a BLT with chicken fingers on it, and Mom had a veggie sandwich with a side of garlic Parmesan tater tots. Yum! Afterwards we went across the street for ice cream. Mom ordered a sample platter which contained enough ice cream for a party of eight. We did not finish it.
With our calorie counters running high we decided the best course of action would be a walk along the river. Although it was absurdly scenic, both Mom and Dad regretted the very heavy food choices right before walking. The river trail eventually took us to a private bridge (how does one acquire a bridge?) and then followed the river back along the opposite bank. A very enjoyable walk.
Once we were back at the campground it was time for laundry. Dad and Remy played some games while we waited and Mom got a bit of work done. Remy played his very first game of Sorry, but Dad's years of experience won the day. For dinner Mom made some cheese pizzas in our tiny griddle. They were deliciously cheesy.
